It is highly abrasion resistant and the shock absorber in the heel mitigates against high impact areas of the foot. The Asolo AFS 8000 boot is suitable for altitudes over 5000 m, winter and ice climbing. This boot is a firm favourite of K2's experienced staff who find it fits a large amount of foot shapes and widths, has a rugged build quality and good climbing precision.
The Vibram sole on the boot is not massively thick and therefore offers a low profile. The sole of the boot is also flat, with no camber which makes walking on solid ground that little bit harder than with a cambered boot. However this thinner sole unit and lack of camber on the sole mean that for precision when climbing the AFS 8000 beats many other plastic mountaineering boots hands down. The boot does not feel clunky or unwieldy like many plastic mountaineering boots. Comfort in the boot is also maintained by a heel shock absorber that offers high impact parts of the foot protection. The removable inner boot is made from Velveteen and Thinsulate which offers good insulation and dries quickly.
• Rigid and durable Pebax plastic shells are completely waterproof and maintain flexibility in extreme cold.
• Removeable 7 layer inner provides ample warmth on the mountain and at basecamp, provides grip for midnight toilet scamperings.
• Thinsulate insulation and Velveteen linings offer soft, wicking comfort and maximum heat retention.
• Polyurethane midsoles provide shock absorption, cushioning with a durable Vibram outsole for long approaches and mixed work.
