Outdoor Research Helios Sun Hat | K2 Team Member Review

I recently swapped my kangaroo skin foldable hat for a new Outdoor Research Helios Sun Hat. The Helios has replaced my old heavy, sweat soaked hat; excelling as itself as a comfortable easy fit, drying quickly and keeping the harsh Australian sun off my noggin!...and all I can say is “what took me so long?”!! As a rule hats don’t always sit as high as they should on the importance scale, when it comes to bushwalking. Generally a good pair of boots and a great fitting pack are standard talking points, but with Australia having the highest skin cancer rates in the world a decent sun hat is a must for our sunburnt country.
The Helios is so much better than my previous hat. It is made from super lightweight (65g Size L), water resistant, breathable double weave ripstop nylon polyester blend that wicks moisture away from your head and dries quickly when washed, all this while boasting a UPF50+ sun protection rating. The Transaction headband really works at stopping sweat from running down my face. Interestingly, when I bend forward the sweat drains out of the band onto the ground! A small, but important point is I can scratch my head through the fabric! The hat has an adjustable draw cord that allows your head to expand as it gets hot, without feeling any headband pressure. There is also a removable chin cord keep your hat on in windy conditions.
The Outdoor Research Helios Sun Hat is a lightweight comfortable hat to use for bushwalking and/or travel. It folds up easily taking up minimal space in your pack while providing maximum protection from the sun.
